Rosemary Bello, born in 1932 in Holbrook, NY, has woven her life deeply into the fabric of her community for over nine decades.  In 1950, she embarked on a new chapter, marrying Anthony Joseph Bello and settling into their cherished home at 152 Union Ave, Holbrook.  For an impressive 75 years, Rosemary nurtured her family and enriched the Holbrook community with her unwavering presence and dedication.

Her roots in Holbrook trace back to her parents, Jack and Mary Barbara, who resided at 1609 Grundy Ave, Holbrook.  Together, they owned and operated The Maybar Superette, an iconic family business located at 1066 Main Street.  The Maybar was more than a grocery store; it was a cornerstone of community life, offering everything from fresh meats butchered on-site to gasoline, all with a personal touch that defined an era. Transactions were sealed not with credit cards but with trust, reflected in the handshake agreements that underscored their commitment to service.

Anthony, fondly known as “Babe” to all who frequented The Maybar, played an integral role in its daily operations. The deli business demanded round-the-clock dedication, operating seven days a week without the luxury of extended breaks. Despite the challenges, Rosemary and Anthony’s deep ties to the community fostered a close-knit environment where everyone was not just a customer but a neighbor, part of an extended family rooted in shared experiences and mutual support.

Reflecting on her lifelong residency in Holbrook, Rosemary holds a deep sense of pride and gratitude.  Her enduring connection to the community is a testament to its resilience and warmth, shaped by decades of shared memories and collective milestones.  As she celebrated her 93rd birthday this past January, Rosemary continues to embody the spirit of Holbrook, cherishing its traditions and the bonds forged over generations.

In her own words, “Holbrook holds a special place in my heart.  I’ve spent my entire life here, and I am proud of our community.  It’s been an honor to call Holbrook my home and to have had the privilege of living among such wonderful people.  May God bless Holbrook and all those who have touched my life over the years.”

Rosemary Bello’s journey through life is a testament to the enduring spirit of community and the profound impact of dedicated individuals who shape the places they call home. Her legacy, rooted in family, service, and community, remains an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of knowing her and sharing in the story of Holbrook, NY.
