Raymond Alvarez has been a proud business owner in Holbrook for the past 15 years, serving the local community and surrounding areas with dedication and skill. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Raymond arrived in the United States in 2003 with a dream of building a better future.

Passionate about entrepreneurship, he pursued his interest in barbering by enrolling in hair-cutting classes. Determined to master the craft, he apprenticed at his cousin’s barbershop, gaining invaluable experience while refining his skills. After earning his state license, he set his sights on establishing his own business.

In 2015, Raymond’s dream became a reality when he opened Generations Barber Shop. Since then, he has cultivated a loyal clientele by providing top-quality service, fostering a welcoming atmosphere, and embracing the traditions of classic barbering while incorporating modern styles. His commitment to excellence and community engagement has made Generations Barber Shop a trusted name in Holbrook.

Through hard work, perseverance, and a passion for his craft, Raymond Alvarez continues to build his legacy—one haircut at a time.

About Raymond Alverez

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I come from a close-knit family, all originally from the Dominican Republic. Family has always been at the heart of who we are, and despite moving to the United States, we’ve remained deeply connected. I have one brother and two sisters, and I’m the youngest of the four. Growing up as the youngest had its challenges, but it also came with the advantage of learning from my older siblings’ experiences. They have always been there to guide and support me, and I’ve always looked up to them.

Though we all now live in the U.S., we still hold onto our Dominican roots, culture, and traditions. Our family gatherings are always filled with laughter, music, and, of course, incredible food. My mom, the foundation of our family, currently lives in Philadelphia. Even though we may not all be in the same city, we make it a priority to stay in touch and visit as often as possible. No matter where life takes us, family remains our greatest bond, and we always find ways to stay connected and support each other.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

From the very beginning, hard work and dedication has defined my journey. Raymond started out working at McDonald’s, where he learned the value of responsibility and customer service. From there, he moved on to his uncle’s barbershop, immersing himself in the craft and developing a passion for the trade. It was there that he honed his skills, learned the business, and built relationships with the community.

Determined to take the next step, he took a leap of faith and opened Next Generations Barber Shop—a place that quickly became a staple in the Holbrook community. Through talent, dedication, and a commitment to excellence, he created a welcoming space where clients felt like family. More than just a barber, he built connections, shared stories, and became a trusted figure in town. His journey is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the power of following one’s passion.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

If you have a dream, chase it with determination! Success often requires stepping beyond your comfort zone and embracing new challenges. Growth happens when you push past fear and take risks. Believe in yourself, stay committed, and never let doubt hold you back. Every great achievement starts with the courage to try. Don’t wait for the perfect moment—create it. The journey may be tough, but the rewards are worth it. Keep learning, keep striving, and keep moving forward. Your dreams are within reach, but only if you’re willing to go after them with passion and persistence!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

As I continue growing my business, I dream of one day opening my own restaurant. My passion for food, its rich culture, and the way it unites people inspires me. Creating a welcoming space where guests can share great meals and meaningful moments is a vision I hope to bring to life.
